Textile nonwovens, transparent films and papers are used as alternatives to talcum powder. Kraft paper with virgin paper fibers and a small proportion of sorted waste paper has proved particularly effective. In the insulation process, the entire stranding must be covered before the sheathing. The usual methods are spiral wrapping or the cigarette form.

What is talc?

Talc is a ground magnesium silicate mineral that can bind water. It is very light and almost invisible in the air. In the production of PVC cables and halogen-free core insulation and sheathing, the mineral talc in powder form is mainly used as a separating and lubricating agent between the cores and sheathing to prevent the core insulation from sticking to the sheathing.
